Sacramento CalGreen Checklists 2019
Sacramento CalGreen Checklists 2019
The City of Sacramento building department has updated their Sacramento CalGreen checklists for the 2019 Green Building Standards code. The new checklists include the 2019 code changes. Unfortunately, the checklists do not identify those items that have been added or changed. For a complete list of all of the 2019 CalGreen Code changes see our white paper here.
The new checklists follow the same format as the previous ones. They will be familiar to those who have used them in the past.
The 2019 Checklists
There are three new checklists. The titles below are hyperlinks and the actual checklists can be downloaded by clicking on them.
The 2019 CalGreen Residential Mandatory Measures Checklist applies to new homes, hotels, motels, lodging houses, dwellings, dormitories, condominiums, shelters, congregate residences, employee housing, factory-built housing and other types of dwellings containing sleeping accommodations, with or without common toilet or cooking facilities, including accessory buildings.
The 2019 CalGreen Commercial New Construction Checklist applies to all newly constructed non-residential buildings.
Lastly, the 2019 CalGreen Commercial Additions and Alterations Checklist applies to Nonresidential Addition and Alteration projects, without sleeping accommodations, that have a floor area exceeding 1000 square foot or a permit valuation exceeding $200,000.
Sacramento Lags the State in CalGreen Compliance
At CalGreen Energy Services we are specialists in the CalGreen Code. CalGreen consulting and checklist services are all we do. This specialty results in us working on CalGreen residential and commercial projects throughout the state.
There are wide variations in the compliance and enforcement of the CalGreen Code in California cities and counties. Many jurisdictions do little, if anything, to enforce the CalGreen Code. This is a shame as the code is the only one that addresses sustainable and green building requirements. These issues are a part of California living and the reason many of us love living here. Unfortunately our state capitol is one of those jurisdictions that are lagging in CalGreen enforcement. As a result many home and business’ are not getting the full benefit of the sustainable benefits of the code.
Our capitol city should be setting an example for sustainable design by enforcing the Sacramento CalGreen checklists and code requirements. Since the city is not, it is even more important that your project engage a knowledgeable CalGreen consultant to ensure the long term benefits of sustainable design.
Another concern is that the City could start enforcing the code at any time. There is pressure in the City Hall to do exactly that. It’s important to understand that just because the city is lax in enforcing the code does not mean your project does not have to comply with it.
Your new home or office could be caught in a code nightmare if your design team has not complied, and the city decides to start inspecting CalGreen items prior to occupancy. In addition, failure to incorporate all of the CalGreen requirements could result in lawsuits down the rode if your building does not comply with California State code.
