San Francisco Bulletin AB-093
In January of 2018 the San Francisco Department of Building Inspections issued Bulletin AB-093. The purpose of this Administrative Bulletin is to detail standards and procedures for the implementation of the Green Building requirements of the San Francisco Green Building Code. The bulletin details which projects CalGreen is applicable, compliance requirements and the permit submittal process. San Francisco Permit Tracking Process
The City of San Francisco Building Department provides an online tracking service for all building permits. The Permit Tracking System (PTS) allows you to track building, electrical, plumbing, and boiler permits as well as complaints online. With this system you may research building permit or complaint history as well as track the progress of a current project. The online permit records go as far back as the 1980’s.
You may search for these items by site address, permit application or number, applicant information or by browsing a city map. You may also search for particular records by keywords, for example “solar.”

San Francisco Permit Application
Permit Services, part of the City & County of San Francisco’s Department of Building Inspection (DBI), is responsible for issuing all permits to ensure that proposed construction meets all safety requirements in a timely manner. There are three groups that make up the Permit Services department: Central Permit Bureau (CPB), Initial Permit Review (IPR), and Permit Processing Center (PPC).
- Central Permit Bureau: The CPB accepts and issues construction, electrical, plumbing, and street space permits for all public and private buildings. CPB also assesses and collects fees for all structures, building enlargements, and change of use.
- Initial Permit Review: IPR handles reviewing building permit applications and plans prior to review.
- Permit Processing Center: PPC handles the coordination of building permit applications between the different departments of the Department of Building Inspection prior to issuance of the permits. It also handles cancellation notices and revisions given by the Planning Department.
