Get Your Building Permit in NOW!
On January 1, 2020 the 2019 California Green Building Standards Code (AKA CalGreen) goes into effect. The new code adds additional costs and complexities to the CalGreen permitting process. If your are able to get your project in before the end of the year it will save you thousands of dollars in additional costs. .
CalGreen 2020 – Added Cost, Added Complexity
Since most building departments close over the holidays, it is likely that the last permit intake day will be during the week of December 16th. It is also likely that the intake desk will be looking for any reason to reject your permit set to reduce their over-whelming workload. Every jurisdiction will be over-loaded at the end of this year.
It is more critical than ever that you submit a complete and correct set of CalGreen documents to avoid the possibility of your project being pushed into the new year – and the new code!
The new code is causing a rush of end of year permit applications as builders and owners try to avoid the added costs of the updated CalGreen Code. For example, the revised code will require solar photo-voltaic panels on all new homes in California. This will add up to $25,000 to the cost of a new home.
